About the Village
Settled in the early 18th Century by the French, the village of Alder Point is built along one
of the deepest waterways in Cape Breton known as the St. Andrew's Channel. For decades, the village's main
industry has been fishing and fish production.
The drive is approximately 5km in length and is dotted with boats and small wharfs. At
the end of the village is the main wharf and the mouth of the channel that opens into the Atlantic Ocean. Take a walk along
the shore, search for bald eagles and view the erroding cliffs rich with fossils. Live lobsters, when in season,
and other "catch of the day", can be bought from local fishermen.
